Air Transport

Warsaw Fryderyk Chopin Airport (old name Okęcie) is the largest and the most modern airport in Poland. It is located 10 km south-west from the center of Warsaw. The Warsaw airport covers about 70% of all passenger air traffic in Poland. At present Warsaw has over 80 scheduled connections to domestic and international airports and an ever growing number of charter connections.

Railway Transport

There are three large railway stations in Warsaw receiving international and long haul domestic traffic: Warszawa Centralna, Warszawa Zachodnia, Warszawa Wschodnia. At present Warsaw has railway connections with the following European cities: Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Berlin, Amsterdam, Basel, Munich, Rome, Kiev, Moscow, Brussels, Cologne.

How to get to the centre from the airport:

Frideric Chopin Airport

The airport is 10 km south from the centre of Warsaw. It takes about 20 minutes to get there. You can take bus number 175; and get off either at bus stop called “Centrum” in the city center or at bus stop  “Uniwersytet” [“University”] – the conference venue.

There is also SKM train connection from the airport  to the city center. The train stops at the Warszawa Centralna Station or at the Warszawa Śródmieście Station (both in the center of Warsaw).

Alternatively you can take a taxi which belongs to one of the municipal corporations. In front of the arrival hall, there is a rank with taxis associated in three corporations: “SAWA Taxi”and “MERC Taxi” Estimated taxi fare is 1,80PLN-2,40PLN per km (to get to the city center you should not pay more than 40-50 PLN)

Modlin Airport

The airport is 40 km north from the centre of Warsaw.

  • By Masovian Railways train – shuttle buses from airport terminal (leaving airport every 20 minutes) to get to the Modlin station (4 km). Tickets for the bus Masovian Railways can be purchased at a ticket office. Get-off station is Warsaw Central Railway Station (Warszawa Centralna). The whole trip takes about 40 minutes. Ticket price (normal) from the Modlin station to the Warsaw Central Railway station is 12,50 zł.
  • By MODLINbus running between Modlin airport and Warsaw Central Railway station. Buses stop at Metro Młociny bus stop (Tomasza Nocznickiego street) and in the vicinity of Warsaw Central (Aleje Jerozolimskie 56 C, in the guarded parking). Single ticket costs 29 zł (to Metro Młociny) and 33 zł (to Warsaw Central). More information is available at
  • By PKS bus to Warsaw Central Railway station. Buses operating are available in the immediate vicinity of airport terminal
  • By taxi or private carrier from airport terminal.


Public transport

Buses and trams are the basic means of public transport; they run according to the timetable displayed at the stops, approximately from 5.00 a.m. to 10:45 p.m.; from 10:45 p.m. to 4:45 a.m. night buses are in service. Almost all night lines have their main stops at Emilii Plater (close to the Central Railway Station) to facilitate changing lines for the passengers. The tickets can be bought at kiosks [newsagent’s shops], ticket machines or from the driver.
